Health and Safety

Health and Safety in Pulblic Art;

when creating a piece of public art you have to be aware of health and safety risks when going through the design process.

-who will see it
-materials
-location
-design
-size
-sustainability
-suitability
-subject matter
-cost
-weather
-electricity
-instigation
-strength
-maintenance
-post completion

all of these points have to be taken into account when thinking and making a piece of public art.

Definition Of Public Art

Public art is not an art “form.” Its size can be huge or small. It can tower fifty feet high or call attention to the paving beneath your feet. Its shape can be abstract or realistic (or both), and it may be cast, carved, built, assembled, or painted. It can be site-specific or stand in contrast to its surroundings. What distinguishes public art is the unique association of how it is made, where it is, and what it means. Public art can express community values, enhance our environment, transform a landscape, heighten our awareness, or question our assumptions. Placed in public sites, this art is there for everyone, a form of collective community expression. Public art is a reflection of how we see the world—the artist’s response to our time and place combined with our own sense of who we are.

in lesson we were set the task to make a mind map of what we thought public art was about, some of the things we came up with;

Long Road College Exhibition Review

the year 13 work that was displayed was more personal to them i feel they researched and discovered more artists relevant to there work and there personal reference. i really like the wide range of work created each individual and themed with a clear understanding you could see the direction they wanted to take with a path of work telling us how they created there work and how they did it. the difference in our work and theres is the real personal connection they have with there work you can tell who,s work is who's were as with out year 12 work there all quite similar.
throughout the whole exhibition there were a few peoples work that caught my eye, wether it be through textiles, pain or drawings.
